Familiars – Pet Cemetery

Monsters
Notes from the Nails: You may remember some of these from the pack of necromancy spells we released a while back. Well, they may smell a bit rotten, but they're still good!

Extended Familiars
By tradition, familiars take the forms of beasts, but we have decided to break away from that to offer some stat blocks based on non-beast creature types. At the end of the day, a familiar is an extraplanar spirit in the shape of a beast, so why not let them take the shapes of constructs, undead or fey?

Pet Cemetery
Undead familiars. I'm pretty sure there's one person in every adventuring party that wants one of these creepy critters following them around. So, dim the lights, break out the eye shadow, and get your Hot Topic gift cards ready - it's time to give your PCs a gothic makeover!

  1. Cool. A creeping claw is obviously also an option.

How does a Creeping Foot walk? Does it lift into the air somehow?
And how does a Psudodragon Skeleton have poison?

    1. I was imagining it uses its toes in a ripple-like motion as seen in centipedes.

For the pseudodragon, I just felt like it's still got the bone structure for the stinger, so it'd be cool if it still had poisoned attacks. Perhaps it fabricates the venom using the necromantic energies that animated it?

    2. You could have the stinger just inject necrotic energy, swapping the poison damage for necrotic damage. The save is so easy to make that I don't think swapping the damage type will matter much.

    3. I'm an idiot. In my mind pseudodragons were dealing damage with their poison, like Imps :P

    4. Oh well, I guess that kinda makes sense. Enough for d&d, at least.

This made me wonder if there'll be any good familiar options in MToF.

    5. I think they'll mainly be focussing on big, high-level threats, probably.

    1. That's a glaring oversight, eh? There's a bit of room at the bottom of the pdf. Maybe I can squeeze one in tomorrow...

  4. What's a hitodama? I'm picturing some sort of ghostly lantern like thing.

    1. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hitodama

Japanese ghost. Its a small ball of light that floats around at night, and is made of a human soul.

    2. Pretty much that. It's likely that the Japanese hitodama concept comes from the same place as the British will-o-the-wisp (i.e. swamp gas catching fire), but the way it's presented in pop culture differs.

If you've ever watched anime or read manga, you've probably seen weird blue and orange swirls floating around the head of a character that's either possessed, depressed, or experiencing some kind of mental breakdown (like this: http://i.imgur.com/0Dwh5j8.png). That's the hitodama I'm referring to here.

  5. The Zombie Puppy speaks common? Is that meant to be Understands but cannot speak, or can the Zombie Pup actually speak?

    1. Hmm, no that can't be right. The zombie puppy should not know any languages.
